The most interesting way to find out about Nova Scotia's heritage is by paying a visit to the Apple Capital Museum, the Water's Edge Inn Café & Gallery, Mount Hanley Schoolhouse Museum and the Alderney Landing Cultural Convention Centre.

Alderney Landing Cultural Convention Centre.

This is a convention centre, art gallery, market and theatre facility in which is located in Downtown Dartmouth and was opened in May 1999. In this theatre concerts, conventions and other events takes place, the Alderney Landing Cultural Convention Centre situates the Eastern Front theatre, on the lower level of this building is the market, Craig Art gallery, Ducky's Restaurant and the Liquor Corporation retail store.

For outdoor concerts or festivals a large stage was built on one side of Alderney Landing with a permanent roof, the Dartmouth Multicultural Festival is an outdoor sequence of performances, workshops and displays and celebrates the diversity of Nova Scotia. For outdoor concerts and festivals there is a large multi use space called the Events Plaza which is the parking lot of the building bordering the harbour doubles.

The Water's Edge Inn, Café & Gallery.

Water's Edge is a gallery of fine arts and crafts that has a diverse collection of artworks and fine crafts, the work in the gallery is of the sea, it's environment and the maritime experience, the gallery is on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia and is located on the beautiful waterfront of the historic Beddeck.

The present gallery was built as a residence in Upper Washabuck in 1895 it came to it's present location and was the village carriage house for many years, Rose Cottage Gallery was situated in this gallery during 80's and 90's and was reopened in 2002 as the Water's Edge, Rose Cottage has been a tourist favourite for many years and let us hope that Water's Edge also becomes one.

Cape Breton Fiddling Association.

The Cape Breton fiddling association was brought to Canada by Scottish immigrants during the Highland clearances, fiddling has changed from the time in Scotland, Scottish fiddle music has been well preserved in Cape Breton, as a tribute to this music, a tourism centre was constructed in 2005, on Sydney waterfront is the world's largest fiddle and bow. When Cape Breton players perform the tunes of other music such as Irish, Canadian and French they sound a little different, though fiddle music is mainly influenced by the Gaelic language intonations, the ornamentation in Cape Breton fiddling is adapted from the Great Highland bagpiper, Violin and pump organ were common instruments in Cape Breton about a century ago.

Apple Capital Museum.

The museum was founded in 1998 with the donation of the Margeson building in Berwick, the co-ordination and operation of the Apple Capital interpretive centre is done by Apple Capital Museum Society. In this centre there is a collection displaying historical belongings from the Annapolis Valley industry and it's founders. The Apple Capital Museum also displays information on residents and community history, the Apple Capital Museum is a non-profitable organization made up of volunteers, with the help of regular meetings and newsletters throughout the year the operations are managed according to the society by laws from the board of directors.

Ship's Company Theatre.

The Ship's Company theatre was started in 1984 and the consistent growth and financial security of the theatre is ensured by the Board of Directors, the work produced by the theatre is performed by talented artists and is a favourite place for many artists across the country. Talented performers are attracted by the uniqueness and beauty of the theatre and it's surrounding, the Ship's Company Theatre is a major tourist attraction and provides employment opportunities and also gives valuable training to students. The Ship's Company Theatre also assists in fundraising for other organizations by attending and participating at events and by donating tickets with draws for auctions.

Roger Savage Art Gallery.

Roger Savage is a painter and when he was a student he realized his artistic talents and started working outdoors, he does not believe in duplicating the feeling and light from a studio, Roger Savage travelled all around the world to paint outdoors, he has painted majestic glaciers, light of Otto Fiord, Ellesmere Island, icebergs, Nunavut as the red bougainvilleas in Colombia. His work is exhibited all over the world and in the Art Gallery in Nova Scotia, Confederation Centre Art Gallery and the Owens Art Gallery.

Roger gives lectures and painting seminars to adults and children and also teaches them the basics of screen printing. His works are translated into miniature postcards which enables thousands of people to know about Nova Scotia, Roger's work has been on book covers of poetry and also on two $100 commemorative gold coins, the Roger Savage Art Gallery also sells some of Roger's paintings.

Halifax Summer Opera Workshop.

The Halifax summer opera gives opportunities to singers from all levels to learn the role for performing an entire full staged opera, the summer opera performs for four weeks and consists of dramatic and musical interpretation classes and also auditioning and private coaching. Each participant receives at least two public performances as the operas are double cast. The selection of participants is based on the auditions held in Toronto and Halifax or from recorded auditions, there is no age limit for this opera and the workshop will include a few days of coaching and rehearsals of music which is followed by blocking and running of the show for a week and a half, the theatre is used for performances, the Sir James Dunn Theatre with occupancy of 235 seats.

Mount Hanley Schoolhouse Museum.

This museum is located in the historic Mount Hanley school in Nova Scotia's Annapolis County, the Mount Hanley Schoolhouse Museum displays the history of the school and the local communities rural school life. The school was constructed in 1850, the Mount Hanley District Schoolhouse Museum Society was formed to preserve the building, Alton and Laurette Barteaux bought the school in 1963 when it closed and was donated to the society in 2006.

The Barteaux family preserved all the books, desks, maps and fittings over the last 124 years, including school registers, from 1894 the Barteaux family added artifacts from other schoolhouses in the area and also from the Mount Hanley families. The school was registered as a provincial heritage property in 1995, Mount Hanley Schoolhouse Museum is staffed by volunteers and is open to the public during the summer, the school has remained unchanged from 1850 except for a woodshed which was added in 1892.
